CENTER CREEK, Wasatch County, Loran Atwood Sweat, 67, died April 3, 1983 in Longview, Texas.  Born Nov. 11, 1915 in Hanna, Duchesne County to Earl Wilbur and Olive May Hodgkinson Atwood.  Married Delbert Sweat Nov. 11, 1935 in Vernal.  Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple.
She was an active member of the LDS Church having served in the Relief Society, Primary, YWMIA, and as Ward Organist.
Survivors: Husband of Gilmer, Texas; Children: Mrs. Richard (Jean) Pilcher and Rex Sweat both of Gilmer, Texas, Lew R. Sweat and Merle Sweat both Center Creek, 10 grandchildren, 7 step-grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren.  Mother, Salt Lake City; Brother and sister: Mrs. Virgil (Oralie) Wadley and Morris (Woody) Atwood both Salt Lake City.  Preceded in death by a brother Billie.
Funeral services Saturday 12:-- noon in the Center Ward Chapel.  Friends may call at Olpin Mortuary, Heber City Friday 7:00-9:00 p.m. and at the church Saturday prior.  Burial Heber City Cemetery.

He married Ann Bond (of Heber, UT) on 29 Apr 1931 in Salt Lake City, UT.

Thus, she became Ann Bond Mahoney.

Ruth married Emeline's brother, Orvel, long after Emeline had passed away, and was a 2nd wife to Orvel after his first wife, Bertha, had passed away in 1973.

Beloved mother and grandmother, Ruth Giles Davis Sweat, passed away Oct. 25, 1989 at the home of her daughter following a courageous battle with cancer.

Born March 2, 1903 in Heber City to George David and Mary Elizabeth Mair Giles.  Married Orval Davis April 13, 1925 in Salt Lake City.  Later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple.  He died Nov 23, 1962.  Married Orvel Sweat July 23, 1974 in the Provo Temple.  He died June 27, 1983.  Active member LDS Church, taught Primary and Sunday School.  Enjoyed genealogy, history, and Temple Work.

Survived by daughter: Faye and Thomas Henrie, Orem; step-children: Edna and Earl McDonald, LeRoy and Virginia Sweat, Doyl and Dona Sweat, all of Center Creek; Viola Giles, Wilva and Ray Anderson, all of Heber City; Ruby and Roy Flitton, June and Gale Desmond, Rose Ranquist, all of Salt Lake City; 6 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, 37 step-grandchildren, 143 step-great-grandchildren; 43 great-great-step-grandchildren.  Preceded in death by stepson, Leo Sweat and three step-grandchildren.

Funeral services were Monday.  Burial in the Heber City Cemetery.

Services Held for Forest E. Mahoney
Forest Erwin Mahoney, 66, 1504 E. 17th South, died at 4:30 a.m. on Saturday, in a Salt Lake hospital of natural causes.
He was born on May 17, 1896 in Heber City, a son of Elmer and Nancy Jones Mahoney.  He married Arvilla Woodland on January 27, 1926 in the Salt Lake Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  He was a member of the Edgehill Ward serving as a high priest and ward teacher.  He was a World War I veteran.  Foreman in Butte, Montana, and Salt Lake City railway post offices.  Retired February 2, 1962.  For the past twelve years had been president of the National Transport Postal Assn.
Survivors: widow; one son, Brent F. Mahoney, both Salt Lake City; one daughter, Mrs. Lee (Marilyn) Roberts, LaMirada, California; two grandchildren; five brothers, Louris, Ray and Rodney Mahoney, all Heber City; Dr. J.R. Mahoney, Salt Lake City, and Ernest Mahoney, Nevada; sister, Mrs. Lindsay (Thelma) Anderson, Provo.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday at 1 p.m. in the Edgehill LDS Ward Chapel.
Burial was in the Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park.

Thelma Mahoney Anderson

Born to Elmer and Nancy Jane Jones Mahoney in Center, Wasatch County, on Dec. 10, 1912, Thelma lived an exemplary life as a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and member of the LDS Church.  She passed away at the age of 92 on Sept. 11, 2005 in Azle, TX.

She spent the early years of her life with her parents and six brothers in Heber Valley where she attended school, graduating from Wasatch High School in 1929.  At 16 years of age, she moved to Salt Lake City to live with her brother, Rolla, his wife Effie, and their family, while attending classes at the University of Utah.  She married Lindsay B. Anderson, who was also a Heber Valley native, on June 11, 1935, in the Salt Lake Temple.  Their family life developed in Logan, Tremonton, Missoula and Kalispel (MT), Salt Lake City, Price and Provo where Lindsay went to Panama to serve during World War II.  She was left to take care of their first three children.  After his return, the family moved to Cedar City until 1951 when they moved back to Provo.

During this time, three more children were added to the family.  Mom was noted for her ability and enthusiasm to organize large, complex family-related events such as dinners, family reunions, picnics and camping trips.  Her unwritten and undeclared agenda had the purpose to make us feel good about ourselves, our families and our surroundings.  As a member of the LDS Church, Mom worked tirelessly in Sunday School, Primary and Relief Society, where she served twice as President in the Provo 22nd Ward.  She and Dad served in the California, Arcadia/California San Bernardino, Mission from 1979 to 1981.  They enjoyed participating as Temple Ordinance workers.  Dad passed away in 1996, and Mom lived in Orem until 2002, when encouraged by her daughter Judy and son-in-law Kent Talbot, she went to live with them in Azle, TX.  There, she enjoyed the most beautiful and dedicated attention that everyone hoped for.  The talbot family was a special blessing to her.

Survived by her children, Lynette (Duane) Harmon, Madison, CT; David (Nelida), Las Cruces, NM; Leon (Kathryn), Provo; Linda (Jess) Nuttall, Pinesdale, MT; Mark (Betty), Provo; and Judy (Kent) Talbot, Azle, TX.  She has 28 grandchildren and 42 great-grandchildren.  

Funeral services were held Friday, Sept. 16, in the Bonneville Fourth Ward Chapel, 1289 East, 300 South, Provo.

Interment was in the Heber City Cemetery.

She was 52 years old when she died.

The following excerpt was taken from the "Life Story of Elmer Sweat" (p.5), written by Elmer's daughters, and found in the personal albums of Veda Cox:

"... Just about Christmas time 1953 Thelma had another stroke, which put her in bed.  Her sisters Grace and Ellabee came to help care for her but problems arose and Elmer sent them home.  He cared for Thelma day and night until we were all worried about his health.  He eventually gave in and let her sisters come back.  In the months following the major stroke Thelma was in and out of the hospital but finally on the 5th of April 1954 she passed on at their home in Center Creek.

After Thelma died Elmer would not let his daughters move anything in the house.  It all had to be left just as she had left it... He would not consider marrying again.  He said that burying two wives was all he could take..."

Thelma T. Sweat Dies Monday

Mrs. Sarah Thelma Taufer Sweat, 52, wife of Elmer Sweat, died at her residence in Center, Monday at 2:25 a.m. after a four-month illness.

Born in Salt Lake City, Sept. 15, 1901, she was a daughter of Louis John and Ellen Conder Taufer.  She was married to Mr. Sweat November 8, 1936 in the Salt Lake Temple.  She was an active worker in the L.D.S. Church, especially in genealogical and temple work.

Surviving are her husband; stepchildren, Mrs. Veda Cox, Dugway; Mrs. Beth Stinger, Pocatello; Mrs. Mina Peterson, Boyd Sweat, Heber; 11 step-grandchildren; 5 brothers and sisters: Bert, George, and Dr. Lewis John Taufer, and Mrs. Grace Hansen, all of Salt Lake City; Ellabee Higgins, Richfield.

Funeral services were conducted Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. in the Wasatch Stake Tabernacle with Bishop Edward Burgener in charge of the following:

Prayer at the home, Otis Sweat; vocal duet, "In The Garden", Mrs. Louie Averett and Mrs. Mae Taylor accompanied by Mrs. Lorna Sweat; prayer, Bennett Lindsay; violin solos, Mrs. Frankie Taufer of Salt Lake, accompanied by Mrs. Lorna Sweat; remarks, Bishop Edward Burgener; speaker, Pres.
